Adding readings manually

There may be times when you need to manually add device readings to the Questra IDM Application Suite database, such as to initialize usage meters to their starting values, typically when a device is first deployed. (Less frequently, you may need to add readings manually when a device is down or otherwise unable to submit scheduled readings to the Questra IDM Application Suite.) Another possible use for adding readings manually is to make a note of something about a device that a customer has observed on-site, something that is not otherwise detected by reading a device property.

The manually-added values are stored in the Questra IDM Application Suite database along with collected values, and they can be useful in understanding the collected values in the future.

To manually add readings for a device

  1. Set the context to the device you want to work with.

  2. On the Action pane's Service panel under Actions, click Add readings.
    The Add Readings dialog opens.

  3. Enter the necessary readings. For example, use a slider to set a value, select a value from a drop-down list, or type a numeric value.

  4. In the Reason for entry box, explain why you are manually entering data.

  5. Click Send to save the readings to the Questra IDM Application Suite database.
