Use the Devices dialog as the starting place for managing device types and devices. From here, you can define device types and manually add devices or edit those devices that have auto-registered.
This list shows the existing device types.
To add a new device type,
click Add to open the New Device
Type dialog.
To edit a device type, select it and click Edit
to open the Device Type dialog.
To delete a device type, select it and click Delete
.
This list shows the names of devices associated with the select device type.
To add a new device of the
selected device type, click Add to open the Device
dialog.
To edit, simply select the device from the list and edit directly on the Profile tab and Address tab.
To delete a device of the selected device type, select
it on the list and click Delete .
This tab shows the profile and the message queue configuration of the selected device. You can edit the device directly on this dialog.

Reset Password |
Click to open the Reset Password dialog where you can change the selected device's password. CAUTION! Serial Number |
Type the device's serial number (up to 128 characters). | |
Description |
Type the description of the device (up to 255 characters). | |
Display Label |
Type the user-friendly name of the device (up to 100 characters). | |
Network address |
Type the device's IP address. (The IP address is essential for a contactable device but is for reference purposes only for a non-contactable device.) | |
Network accessible |
Select Yes or No depending on whether the device is accessible on the network (in other words, is a contactable device). | |

Retry count |
If the device is contactable, type the number of attempts (after a failed attempt) that will be made to send a message to the device before the message is discarded. For example, a value of 3 will allow for four attempts (the first one that fails plus three more). If the device is not contactable, type the number of poll cycles that will be allowed to be missed before a message is discarded. For example, a value of 3 will allow for four poll cycles to be missed (the first one that fails plus three more). |
Retry Interval |
(Contactable device only) Type the number of seconds between attempts to send a message. | |
Pending poll interval |
(Non-contactable device only) Type the number of seconds desired between poll attempts. For example, for hourly polling, type 3600. | |

*Rather than in degrees, minutes, and seconds.
NOTE: If a device auto-registers as it is brought online and its Service Agent provides its latitude and longitude, you do not need to do anything with these fields. If you are manually adding the device to the system and want to use its address (rather than a customer's address; see the Best Practice above), you will need to enter the latitude and longitude values. You can determine the device's latitude and longitude coordinates from its city or postal code. There are tools readily available on the Internet for converting a city or postal code to latitude and longitude coordinates.
This tab lists all the properties that have been defined for the selected device.
To add a property, click Add
to open the Property dialog.
To delete a property, select it on the list and click
Delete .
This tab lists the TotalAccess connections that have been defined for the selected device.
To add a TotalAccess connection,
click Add to open the New
TotalAccess Connection dialog.
To delete a TotalAccess connection, select it on the
list and click Delete .
This tab lists the rules that have been defined for the selected device.
To add a rule, click Add
to open the Rule dialog.
To edit a rule, select it on the list and click Edit
to open the Rule dialog.
To delete a rule, select it on the list and click Delete
.
To run the rule on a schedule, select it on the list
and click Schedule . (See Scheduling
a rule.)
This tab lists the groups to which the selected device belongs.
Devices may be manually assigned to static groups and automatically assigned to dynamic groups; for more information, see the Group configuration book.
This tab lists the web service interfaces that are defined for the selected device.
NOTE: In general, the Questra IDM Application Suite manages the web services associated with devices automatically. In some cases, such as devices that are not connected to the Enterprise server, you may want to manually associate available services with a device type or individual device.
To add a web service interface,
click Add to open the Add
Web Service Interface dialog.
To edit a web service interface, select it on the list
and click Edit to open the Edit
Web Service Interface dialog.
To delete a web service interface, select it on the
list and click Delete .
