Use the Dynamic Group Definitions dialog to set up a definition that will result in the creation of dynamic groups. (For a detailed discussion, see Understanding dynamic group definitions.)
Fields
Name |
Type a unique name for the definition (up to 100 characters). This name is not the name of a dynamic group, but rather of the definition. Consider including the group's purpose in the name. For example, if you plan to group devices dynamically by their device type and configuration, you might name the definition Group By Device Type and Configuration. |
Description |
Type a description of the definition (up to 255 characters). |
Parent Group |
(Read only) The name of the parent group (that is, the static group currently selected on the Groups list). |
Scope |
(Available only to System Administrators who own the Root group.) The scope of the definition. If the definition is to be evaluated for all devices in the system, select Global. If it is to be evaluated only for the devices assigned to the group you are working with, select Local. |
Subgroup Hierarchy |
Here you define the hierarchy of dynamic subgroups. From the list at the left, select the first (or only) property by which registered devices will be grouped in the hierarchy, and click >> to move it to the list at the right. If desired, repeat to select additional properties. The properties shown in ALL CAP BOLD ITALIC are built into the Questra IDM Application Suite and will always be available. All others will vary depending on how the system has been configured. Examples are Customer, Location, or Color. For a more detailed discussion on the Subgroup Hierarchy, see About built-in membership rules. |
Membership rules |
(Optional) If you selected a non-built-in property above, you will be presented with an input field for that property. For example, if you had selected Color, there will be an input field "Color". To have devices grouped by all instances of the selected property (such as by all colors), leave the field blank. To limit the devices to those of a particular instance of the selected property (such as by Red), enter the value in the field. Regular expressions are allowed. For a more detailed discussion, see About custom membership rules. |
