Alerts and Alarms dialog

Use the Alerts and Alarms dialog as the starting point for configuring alerts and alarms.

Alerts tab

List of alerts

This list shows the existing alerts. Each alert's name, type, effective date (that is, the date the alert went into effect), and expiration date are given. For instructions on adding, viewing, editing, and deleting alerts, see Configuring alerts.

Details subtab

This tab's fields are blank if no alert is selected above.

Name

The name of the alert.

Description

The description of the alert.

Type

The type of alert (System or Email).

Number of retries

The number of times to attempt to send this alert before failing. (For an email alert, this means the number of times the alert can fail to be acknowledged before it is escalated, if so configured.)

Minutes between retries

The number of minutes between retries.

Enabled for System

Checked "Yes" if the alert is enabled.

Escalation level

The number of levels up in the group hierarchy to escalate this alert

Notify System

Checked "Yes" if the system is notified when the alert is acknowledged.

Effective Date

The date on which the alert went into effect.

Expiration Date

The date on which the alert will expire

Email Information subtab

This tab applies only to email alerts. Its fields are blank if no alert is selected above.

From address

The email address that will appear in the From field of the mail message.

Reply-to address

The email address that will appear in the Reply-To field of the email message.

Subject

The subject line that will appear in the Subject field of the email message.

Message body

The message that will appear in the body of the email message. See also Supported tags for email alerts.

Alarms tab

List of alarms

This list shows the existing alarms. Each alarm's name, description, priority, and type are given, as well as an indication if the alarm is enabled. For instructions on adding, viewing, editing, and deleting alarms, see Configuring alarms.

Details subtab

This tab's fields are blank if no alarm is selected above.

Name

The name of an alarm. For details on the default (System) alarms, see Default (System) alarms.

Description

The description of the alarm.

Type

The type of alarm (System or Custom).

Priority

The alarm's priority.

Enabled

Checked "Yes" if the alarm is enabled.

Force Alarm

Click this button to open the Force Alarm dialog in order to test an alarm.

Assigned Alerts subtab

Those alerts currently assigned to the alarm are selected (checked). This tab's fields are blank if no alarm is selected above.
