Understanding views and context
The Questra IDM Application Suite window presents data in one of three
views, which define its current context:
Group
view – When
you first sign into the system, the main window defaults to the Group
view of your default group. If you own multiple groups, you can set up
one as your default group (see Editing
your profile). All of the information you see on the Content pane
pertains to the devices in your default group. You can switch to any other
group you own, and you can elect to include devices in subgroups also.
On the Action pane, notice that some actions are not available because
you have not yet selected a specific device to work with.
Device
Type view – You
can also view summary information by device type by switching to Device
Type view. Open the Navigation pane's Device Type panel and select a particular
device type. Now all the information in the Content pane pertains to devices
of the selected type.
Device view –
This view provides a detailed view that pertains to just a single device.
To switch to this view, select either a group or a device type. Open the
Content pane's Devices panel (by clicking the panel's header) so that
you can see the list of devices within the selected group or of the selected
device type. Finally, select the device you want to work with. (Getting
to a device in this manner is called "drilling down.") In Device
view, the upper portion of the Content pane shows a description (and possibly
an image) of the device. The lower portion presents several panels that
organize device data. Above the Content pane, notice the breadcrumb (the
path), from which you can see at a glance which group (or device type)
and device are selected. Finally, more actions are now available on the
Action pane.
NOTE: Use the path above the Content
pane to backtrack. Click the part of the path to which you want to return.
For example, if you arrived at a device by way of its group and you want
to return to Group view, click Devices in <group name>.
